Spinach is a rich source of vitamins and minerals such as potassium and iron.

1 serving size of ½ a cup of cooked spinach contains:
Calories:    21
Potassium:    419 milligrams
Fibre:        1.7grams
Iron:        3.2 milligrams
Sodium:    63 milligrams
Vitamin A:    120%

Spinach has health benefits as it:
–  reduces blood cholesterol
–  lowers the risk of cancers (particularly lung cancer)

Many nutritionists claim that spinach has a laxative effect on the body, and is a great weight-loss promoting food.

Scientists believe that due to its high amounts of cancer-blocking beta-carotene and ‘carotenoids’ (found in Vitamin A) spinach is considered to be a valuable cancer-fighting food.

Spinach also contains other carotenoids including ‘chlorrophyll’ which scientists believe inhibits changes in cell structure which are precursors to cancer.

Spinach is high on the list of powerful foods for cancer inhibiting and fighting in cases of lung, colon, rectal, oesophageal, stomach, prostrate, laryngeal, endometrial and cervical cancers.
